Central communication unit - CCU

Automated Data CollectionCCU (Central Communication Unit) is part of the information system, that provides data collection from the distribution network. CCU then transfers the data for further processing and storage in the SGMS system.

 

Network of hardware devices is used for the data collection, communicating with electric meters or other SmartGrid elements on one side and with CCU on the other side. These devices are modems or data concentrators.

 

A data concentrator is a special small industrial computer equipped with hardware and software which we developed for communication with electric meters. It is possible to connect up to several tens of electric meters to each data concentrator. On the other side the data concentrator communicates with the CCU using the internet connection, which enables both real-time data processing and central remote administration of the whole grid. The concentrator enables reading of meters and eventually the control of the appliances of different producers.

 

Other devices that the CCU can communicate with are modems connected directly to smartmeters (electric meters). This solution offers much lower capacity considering the number of connected devices and is more communication-network quality dependent (no independent function).
