SGMS – Smart Grid Management System

SGMS is designed to provide the comprehensive service for distribution network operators, eventually for big energy consumers. It consists of several parts, that can or must not be hooked up. It is based on Ensemble platform for integration and development of connectable applications that ensures flawless operation, extraordinary transaction processing speed and real-time processing of data entering the system from the distribution network. Output of SGMS is complete data-set for sales-managers, technicians, customers, market operator etc. SGMS also ensures effective control of the distribution network, energy quality and handling of undesirable states in the grid. Its competitive advantage is an interface enabling connecting of any meter of different producers using various operating and data exchange systems.

Customer portal - CP

If the customer demands the internet access to his data, a special system element is available – Customer Portal. CP is for security reasons completly isolated from the system. It makes possible to provide each individual customer with information of his current consumption via web using one's own login and password.

Central communication unit - CCU

Automated Data CollectionCCU (Central Communication Unit) is part of the information system, that provides data collection from the distribution network. CCU then transfers the data for further processing and storage in the SGMS system.

 

Network of hardware devices is used for the data collection, communicating with electric meters or other SmartGrid elements on one side and with CCU on the other side. These devices are modems or data concentrators.

 

A data concentrator is a special small industrial computer equipped with hardware and software which we developed for communication with electric meters. It is possible to connect up to several tens of electric meters to each data concentrator. On the other side the data concentrator communicates with the CCU using the internet connection, which enables both real-time data processing and central remote administration of the whole grid. The concentrator enables reading of meters and eventually the control of the appliances of different producers.

 

Other devices that the CCU can communicate with are modems connected directly to smartmeters (electric meters). This solution offers much lower capacity considering the number of connected devices and is more communication-network quality dependent (no independent function).

SGMS DataConcentrator

The DataConcentrator enables periodic data collection from the interlink modules (according to the plan).  This data can be directly sent to a DataCenter or processed by a DataConcentrator and then forwarded to the DataCenter. DataConcentrator communicates bidirectional, besides energy data it also allows to collect other information (temperature, humidity etc.). It can be used to control other appliances too.
